2 – Removed as CEO of his own company Zip2 – 1996
3 – The first PayPal product was voted as one of the 10 worst business idea – 1999
4 – Crashed his newly bought McLaren F1 worth 1 Million$ – 1999
5 – Fired from Paypal while on a honeymoon – 2000
6 – Almost died from cerebral malaria. Quote: “Vacation will kill you.” – 2000
7 – Russians refused to sell him rockets to send mice or plants to Mars. – 2001
8 – Russians turned him down again. “Young boy. No.” The impetus behind SpaceX – 2002

10 – 2nd rocket launch and 2nd explosion. – 2007
11 – 3rd rocket launch and 3rd critical failure – with NASA satellites onboard. 2008
12 – Top Gear portrayed Tesla Roadster as a barely running science experiment. Musk later admitted the car was a disaster. -2008
13 – Both Tesla and SpaceX on the brink of bankruptucy. – December 2008
14 – 1st rocket failure during experimental droneship landing. Allowed SpaceX to collect critical data that has subsequently allowed to land a number of first stages. – 2013
15 – 4th rocket explosion at launch. 2nd and 3rd explosions during experimental droneship landings. -2015
16 – Model X deliveres delayed more than 18 months. -2016
17 – 5th rocket explosion during test with Facebook’s AMOS-6 satellite for Africa onboard (worth $300M)
18 – They said they “couldn’t rule out that the explosion wasn’t caused by a UFO.”
19 – 4th, 5th and 6th failures during experimental droneship landings. (The respective missions were successful though) -2016
